Across the Country Home Builders Care
Professional builders csreate more than houses and streets. They build neighborhoods. Neighborhoods they live in. With parks and schools and roads we all use. Ever stop to think about who built your home?
Your builder's company is most likely local and has a stake in more than just construction. He or she may be your neighbor! Builders create homes and neighborhoods ...not just houses and streets. They care about our schools and parks; our young and our elderly, and they care about their responsibility to provide shelter for everyone.
Home builders are involved in their community, our community. Whether it's building a home for a low-income family or a playhouse for the Festival of Trees, providing scholarships for students in construction related fields or simply keeping a construction site clean, here in our community Home Builders Care.
All too often, the public perceive home builders as being responsible for the inconveniences they experience with the inevitable growth in their community. The industry is often portrayed as not caring about our communities and the environment. But the time, effort, work, expertise, and donations that members of the Northern Wasatch Home Builders Association regularly contribute to community service projects easily dispel that myth. The NWHBA is a not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to providing quality housing in the Northern Utah area, as well as making our community a better place to live.
Together with the National Association of Home Builders, the NWHBA is able to give thousands of dollars worth of scholarships every year to students who will eventually become involved in the home building industry. The NWHBA helps support local students in their training and education efforts, whether it be on a university level or at a vocational school. Any student enrolled in construction management or related classes at local universities or technology centers are eligible to apply for and receive these scholarships.
The NWHBA also builds and donates a children's playhouse to the Festival of Trees on an annual basis. The playhouse is then auctioned off and all proceeds from the sale are donated to the Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City. The playhouses that the NWHBA builds are no ordinary playhouses. These magnificent treasures come fully furnished and decorated, ready to make any child's dreams come true. The proceeds from the sale of the playhouses help raise thousands of dollars to aid children in need.
The NWHBA, in conjunction with Ogden City and the Board of Realtors, have built three Have-A-Heart homes, and is currently working on the fourth in Layton City. The purpose of this project is to make home ownership possible for a family who would not normally be able to purchase a home of their own. The purchasers of the Have-A-Heart home only have to qualify for a $50,000 loan, which is all they owe on their new home. Without the labor and material donations to the Have-A-Heart project from NWHBA members, these families never would get the opportunity to own their own home.

Whether a project is large or small, members take time out of their busy schedules to organize and volunteer for the endless meetings and phone calls, as well as physical labor, necessary to successfully complete any of these projects. The monetary and material commitments they make are equally important.
The Northern Wasatch Home Builders Association, sponsor of the Northern Wasatch Parade of Homes, is proud to boast a membership of nearly 500 that is willing to make these kinds of commitments and give back to the community in which we all live, proving once again that Home Builders Care.
